Available on DVD and VHS August 31, 2004
A Fascinating Historical Account of Jesus Christ's Final Days in Jerusalem
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Available for the first time ever on DVD and VHS, Universal Studios Home Video proudly announces its second release in the NBC News Presents series, The Last Days of Jesus. NBC News Presents is a series of exciting and informative profiles that bring to life the events, people and issues that shape the headlines of history. Reported from Jerusalem by Dateline NBC anchor Stone Phillips, The Last Days of Jesus recounts the final week in the life of the most renowned figure in history. This captivating report includes never-before-seen footage presenting the latest discoveries about Jesus' death and includes extensive bonus features ranging from the history of faith healing to contemporary stories on how devotion resonates in everyday modern lives. NBC News Presents: The Last Days of Jesus is priced at $19.98 SRP for the DVD version and $14.98 SRP for VHS. Pre-order deadline is July 27, 2004.
The DVD's main feature, The Last Days of Jesus, chronicles the last week of Jesus Christ's life in a compelling, story-telling style. The report also details recent historical findings and offers the clearest picture yet of what life and death were like for inhabitants of Judea around the year A.D. 33. Phillips visits the historical settings for key moments in the days leading up to Jesus' crucifixion, including the remains of the main Jewish temple, Roman governor Pontius Pilate's jail, and the actual Garden of Gethsemane. It is a gripping account -- using the best, most current research available -- of the events that would re-shape our world for the next 2,000 years.
Bonus Features Enrich the Experience
In addition to the main feature, NBC News' Stone Phillips introduces four bonus segments that examine ways in which the beliefs that blossomed in those final days continue to inspire the faithful today.
* Jesus The Healer: A segment examining the history of faith healing from the New Testament to modern times. Biblical scholars talk about how healing was seen as a sign that Jesus was the promised Messiah and was later understood to be a symbol of the overall healing power of faith.
* Living Faith: NBC News' Sara James looks at three remarkable stories of ordinary people who believe faith saved and changed their lives forever.
* God and the Brain: Correspondent Keith Morrison reports on a controversial study that seeks to find the part of the brain that registers religious experiences. Do people of uncommonly strong faith have a special mental "window" to religious joy that allows them to feel God's presence more deeply? Some scientists think they might.
* Servant Leadership: Stone Phillips looks at a new trend in business management that encourages executives to toss aside the traditional authoritarian model of corporate leadership, and instead motivate their employees with compassion, respect, and ethical standards.
Proponents ascribe the concept to the New Testament story of Jesus humbling himself to wash the feet of his apostles the day before he died. Starbucks, Southwest Airlines, and Vanguard Investment Group are among the major corporations to sign on to the "servant leadership" approach.
From the award-winning journalism team at America's No. 1 news network, NBC News Presents features in-depth investigative reports and insightful personal profiles that incorporate exclusive footage from the world-renowned NBC News archives. Upcoming installments will focus on issues ranging from the Pope to popular diet trends.
