Vince Carter To Make Appearance At NBA Store In New York City; NBA All-Star to Share His Newly-Published Autobiography and Kick-Off an Essay Contest for Kids

KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2004--Positively For Kids, Inc. a multimedia content provider that specializes in publishing books and other learning materials that promote and incorporate character-building themes for kids, announced today that Toronto Raptors guard/forward, Vince Carter will make a special appearance at the NBA Store in New York City to share his newly published children's book, "VINCE CARTER: Course Your Course," and to promote an essay contest for kids in an effort to encourage reading among youth. Vince will be at the NBA store Friday, June 4, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a special Read to Achieve event and book signing appearance.

In Choose Your Course, NBA All-Star veteran Vince Carter shares how he went from a music-filled childhood to winning an Olympic gold medal, emphasizing the importance of knowing where you're going and working to get there. Carter has not only played many sports including soccer, football, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and track, he has also pursued other interests beyond sports -- leading his high school marching band, graduating from college while playing in the NBA, and starting the Embassy of Hope Foundation.

For the essay contest, children ages 9-14 are encouraged to tell their story about how they've been able to "choose their course" and stay positive in their own lives, helping them to become a person of character. Entries should consist of an essay of no more than 500 words that: (1) describes how being on the right course in life is important toward living a life of character; (2) describes a well-known celebrity who is their role model for choosing a positive life course; and (3) gives helpful suggestions to others their age for choosing a positive life course.

The NBA Store (Fifth Avenue at 52nd Street) welcomes Vince Carter for a Reading Time Out on June 4th as part of the NBA's Read to Achieve program. The program is a year-round campaign to help young people develop a life-long love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly to children. Reaching an estimated 50 million children a year, Read to Achieve is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in the history of professional sports.
