Heart's Newest CD Available in SML's Weed Format
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2004--"Jupiter's Darling," the long-awaited album from Northwest rock institution Heart, is being released simultaneously on CD and as downloadable files employing "Weed" technology from Shared Media Licensing, Inc. ("SML"). Fans of the band can buy a physical CD (in stores today), or visit WeedFiles.com to download, audition, purchase and share individual tracks.
Heart will support the album, the group's first studio release in a decade, by a summer tour of 54 cities in the United States and Europe. The album's 16 tracks continue Heart's signature sound, which combines Nancy Wilson's hard rocking guitar with the soaring vocals of her sister Ann.
Jeff Leisawitz, president of WeedFiles.com, distributes the music of numerous artists in Weed format. He says, "The new Heart songs are initially downloadable only from our Web site, but they'll soon spread far and wide. The unique thing about Weed files is, anybody who buys one can immediately redistribute it legally and earn a share of future sales."
John Beezer, President of SML, said, "Heart's decision to offer their new music in our format is perhaps our strongest endorsement yet. Artists covering the spectrum from unsigned independents, to Grammy winners like Sir Mix-a-Lot, to mega-acts like Heart have all realized that Weed is the only file sharing system that's fair to everyone."
Weed files can be freely shared, and played by any Windows Media-compatible player. After 3 free plays, the recipient is invited to purchase the file. Purchased files can be shared with others, and any resulting sales earn a 20% commission for the file sharer. 50% of every sale is paid directly to the song's rightsholder. SML currently deposits a free $5 in each new Weed user account.
More information about the service, including free software download link, the current "Weed Top 10" and a list of web sites offering Weed files, is available on SML's Web site at www.weedshare.com.
