Dr. Sam and The Frivolous Action Blues Band Tackle Medical Malpractice Issues on the Newly Released CD ``Goin' Bare''

DELRAY BEACH, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 2004--With exorbitant malpractice insurance premiums a national concern and crippling the medical profession, one doctor is bringing the issues to the forefront with a unique entertainment act that features music and humor. Dr. Sam Bierstock, a physician and professional entertainer, has formed Dr. Sam and The Frivolous Action Blues Band and released a CD titled "Goin' Bare," a term describing the risky act of practicing without malpractice insurance by physicians who can no longer afford the premiums.

The satirical songs focus on needed reforms with tunes such as "They've Got Deep Pockets - Let's Sue," "The Jury Consultant's Blues," "Fine Print," and parodies such as "When You Wish to Sue a Star," "Back Spasm Woman," and "A Ploy Named Countersue." The CD is available at http://www.managedmusic.com.

"Physicians are moving from state to state, retiring early, or burning out from stress," said Dr. Sam, a former eye surgeon and currently an expert medical computer information systems consultant. "Lawyers are benefiting disproportionately in the current system, which is why attorney fees should be capped."

Since 1996 when he founded Dr. Sam and the Managed Care Blues Band to take on HMOs, Dr. Sam has entertained in more than 40 states at professional conferences, healthcare meetings, and political events to draw attention to significant healthcare issues. His first CD, "Minimal Service - CPT 99211" was distributed to every member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate and has been re-released with added tunes such as "You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Blue Shield." The CD is a popular gift for healthcare professionals and is also available on the website.

Dr. Sam believes the average American is unaware of how malpractice suits affect everyone. "The average person doesn't understand the reason a hospital may not have a neurosurgeon on staff is because the physician may not be able to afford skyrocketing malpractice insurance premiums," he said.

On "Goin' Bare," Dr. Sam wrote all of the lyrics, plays the harmonica and occasionally sings. He's in good company with professional musicians who have toured with the likes of Santana and Joe Cocker.

"We're using funny lyrics and great music to spread an important message," said Dr. Sam. "Our goal is to help people understand how the constant threat of litigation impacts a physician's ability to do his or her job."
