Overview
Computer is getting cheaper yet more powerful. Today, you can easily get a lower end computer for < $1000, including a 15" or 17" monitor. These computers still have plenty of power (say at least 450 MHz) for ordinary users. However, a cutting edge computer with high power (>1 GHz), big memory and hard drive, DVD and CD-RW will cost over $2000. Often you will see free computer or $400 rebate advertisements, this is for signing up an Internet service provider (like AOL). You will be bound for 3 years. In many cases, listed computer prices do not include a monitor, so pay special attention to this. Interestingly, although most computer makers now also sell computers directly online, it would be wrong if you guess you can buy computers cheaper directly from them. The reason is simple: Otherwise resellers will be out of business.
