Product Information / Press Release Ceforin Inj. is a sterile, semi-synthetic, broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic for intravenous or intramuscular administration. As Cefotaxime sodium has a high degree of stability in the presence of -lactamase, both penicillinases and cephalosporinases, of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, it has activity against a wide range of the above micro-organisms.
COMPOSITION One vial contains a quantity of sterile cefotaxime sodium (USP) equivalent to 0.25/0.5/1/2g of cefotaxime.
INDICATION Ceforin is indicated for the treatment of infections by
- St. aureus, St. epidermidis, Str. pneumoniae, Streptococci (group A/B), etc.
- Enterobacter species, E. coli, Haemophilus influenzae. Klebsiella species, Neiserria gonorrhoeae, N. Meningitidis, Proteus mirabilis, P. vulgaris, Serratia species, Acinetobacter species, Citrobacter species, etc.
- Bacteroides species, Clostridium species, Peptococcus species, etc.
USAGE Ceforin is used for the treatment of
- Low respiratory tract infections (e.g.pneumonia)
- Genitourinary infections
- Bacteremia/Septicemia
- Skin and skin structure infections
- Intra-abdominal infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Central nervous system infections (e.g.meningitis)
It is also used for patients undergoing surgical procedures to reduce the incidents of post-operative infections.
DOSAGE Depending on the indications, 1g to 8g is given every 6~8 hours. (The maximum daily dose does not exceed 12g.) Pediatric dose and dosage for patients in renal or hepatic impairment is described in the accompanying insert.
ADMINISTRATION Reconstitute with an appropriate diluent. (I.M. : sterile water for injection, I.V. : sterile water for injection, I.V. infusion : 0.9% NaCl or 5% dextrose injection)
- I.V. injection should be done slowly for 3~5 minutes.
- I.V. infusion is generally done for 20~30 minutes.
