``90 Day Wonder-Darkness Remembered,'' a Riveting True-to-Life Account of the Dark Side of WWII, Coincides with Important WWII Memorial and ``D-Day'' Tributes

MALIBU, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2004--"90 Day Wonder-Darkness Remembered" is a newly released book by co-authors Leon Cooper and Don Tait, which recounts the extraordinary real-life experiences of Cooper, a US Navy officer during World War II.

The emotion-packed story takes the reader on a roller coaster ride, offering enough twists, turns and suspense to make this high drama a must-read.

In keeping with this significant publication, two important tributes for WWII veterans will soon take place. A national WWII Memorial will be dedicated in Washington, D.C., on May 29. Also, the 60th Anniversary of the critically important "D-Day" invasion of Normandy of June 6, 1944, will be celebrated on that day.

The book is a timely telling of Cooper's harrowing personal account of the war. He was an active participant in six major invasions of Japanese-held islands, starting with Tarawa and ending with Iwo Jima. These battles serve as the background for another conflict -- the one between Cooper and the sociopathic Commanding Officer he served under.

Like others in the "Greatest Generation," Cooper was drawn into the climactic events that would mark the future course of the world. He deemed it his patriotic duty to serve to the best of his ability.

Cooper's ship was commanded by Captain Boda, a "Mustang," a long-serving enlisted man who received a "battlefield" commission. He resented "gentlemen" college graduates like Cooper, who were commissioned after only 90 days' training.

Cooper's easily achieved rank and his sense of justice incensed Boda to the extent that he tried to trap him in a number of contrived offenses, but, failing that, tried to have Cooper killed. In the end, the author finds a way to even the score with Boda, and finally finds peace within himself.
